The Buncafe Zine (Bunzine, for short) is an annual zine by and for artists of all kinds. It sounds a bit generic, but it’s true! Our goal is to be a showcase for willing artists, small and big alike; we don’t pick and choose. Everyone is equal, and everyone is welcome to participate!

Bunzine & Buncafe’s deep lore

Bunzine came from a rough idea of making a zine for artists, sort of like Apollo, Artnet, Balam, Esopus, Juxtapoz, KIOSK, Look, and all other forms of an art magazine. Zines are much more informal and casual, meaning the barrier of entry can be set as low or high as the organizer wants it to be; therefore, the entry for Buncafe is just sending me the files with your name and the proper measurements/dpi/text formatting. That’s it. I want to showcase all talent that I see, that’s all.

The purple guy behind it all

It’s me! Hi! I’m Vinny, full name Wincenty Aster Kocima [WAK]! I organize everything in relation to Buncafe solo, which means a lot of responsibility for a single small kitty. I pay out of pocket for everything for now, and I do all the work behind the scenes to ensure Buncafe working as intended full-time. Outside of that, I’m just a silly disabled autistic polish guy from Kujawsko-Pomorskie! I live in a mid-sized village kinda spot, I speak english and polish [duh] but I am also studying russian, german, and a bunch of austronesian, altaic, & uralic languages [I like how they sound — especially korean and tagalog!]

When it comes to art, I do a bit of this, a bit of that. I don’t really stay in one lane for too long, I love to experiment, and I love learning. I’m an autistic sponge of everything art related, including art history — to be fair, I’m a big history nut in general so that part is an overlap.

Why the purple guy? Cause I like purple. Asters come in purple shades. Purple!

So, why a zine?

A zine, because it’s an easy format to print and assemble at home! Even with long-form zines, you can safely print things out on a home printer and be able to read everything without issue. Therefore, a zine was perfect for that.

Now, why don’t you go ahead and submit a piece yourself?
